Months after a disturbing incident involving a white female police officer tasering a black man named Micah Washington, the aftermath remains fraught with controversy and legal implications. The incident, which occurred in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, has drawn attention to issues of police conduct and accountability.

On December 2, Micah Washington, 24, was reportedly retrieving equipment from his aunt’s house to change a flat tire when an officer from the Reform Police Department stopped to question him. The encounter escalated, leading to the officer using a stun gun on Washington, who was handcuffed at the time.

A video capturing the event has circulated widely, gaining thousands of views. In the footage, the officer can be seen leading Washington to her cruiser, pushing him against the hood, and engaging in a verbal exchange. The situation intensifies as the officer discovers and removes a firearm from Washington’s possession. Following this, she exclaims, “Oh yeah,” before deploying the stun gun on the handcuffed man’s back.

Post-tasering, the officer questions Washington, asking, “You want it again?” and resorting to explicit language. The incident resulted in Washington facing charges including obstructing governmental operations, resisting arrest, marijuana possession, drug trafficking, and possessing a firearm as an ex-felon, according to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

Leroy Maxwell Jr., Washington’s attorney, has since confirmed that the drug trafficking charge has been dropped. However, he asserts that they aim to clear Washington’s name entirely. In pursuit of justice, Maxwell plans to file a $20 million federal lawsuit against all parties involved.

“We will not stop working until we clear Micah’s name and hold all responsible parties accountable,” declared Maxwell. “In addition to abuse of force, we have evidence that false criminal charges were filed against Micah.”
